Back at E’s favorite restaurant to celebrate his birthday. Yes he cannot get enough of the beef cheeks here
Always need to start off with a bottle of red and some foie gras, a pity the foie gras here has decreased in size over the years, I still remember the huge portion the first time I dined here
Trying the steak frite here for the first time.
Pretty good, the angus rib-eye was a generous portion and had a good bite. Plus I love the thick cut fries.
Very tickled by the birthday message written by the dessert chef (with no prompting from me! All I asked for was a candle lol)
Food here is always good, no complains.

Such a beautiful cafe, open and spacious complete with faux- industrial like decor. For some reason, there was a weird foul smell in the air that day when we popped by for brunch. Probably something in the aircon vent? The staff were busy spraying air freshener hah
A hot day calls for some ice coffee, aptly done.
E opted for probably the most unphotogenic item on the menu (lol) – the baked eggs with toast
While I went for the most photogenic- the ricotta hotcake with berries, pumpkin seeds and ice cream. Look how pretty it is!! The hotcake was THICK and fluffy, too thick in fact that I could barely finish half but lets just admire how pretty it is

Ah after the disappointing chirashi the last time, I headed down to Sumiya for a much better one.
The thing about Sumiya is that one has to come only during lunch if not its really not worth it, see how generous the lunch set is! salad + side dish + chawamushi + miso soup + mochi!
Nothing much to say, just good ol’ fat chunks of salmon sashimi on rice. Sometimes thats about all you need.
Came across this Austrian restaurant at Capitol, never had Austrian food before plus this was on the entertainer app so that was it!
First up – some breaded mushrooms, they were ok.
E ordered the fried chicken, which came in 3 huge pieces. Portions are generous here so do come with a healthy appetite. The chicken looks so pretty on the plate, in the nice hue of golden brown, it could do with a tad more crispiness though.
I ordered what they called the Emperor’s Favorite dish or Tafelspitz, beef in broth with spinach and potato rosti. It even came complete with instructions on how to eat it!
The beef was very tender and I love all the juicy soft vegetables in the broth, slurped everything up. Pretty good, now I know why the emperor loves this so much.

Just a chirashi don from the Japanese restaurant near my workplace.
It was unfortunately disappointing, too little, too thin and not as fresh as I hoped it would be .
If i knew this was going to be one of the last few chirashi i would eat in this year, I would definitely have gone for something better – insert sad emoji-
Best thing about Don Dae Bak – the egggggg, yup the gooey soft egg at the side of the bbq plate, so good.
That said, the food here was pretty good too, esp the side dishes
A huge pot of korean army stew mmm infused with the rich flavors of clams.
What I didnt really like was the atmosphere, a tad too cramped and noisy with little ventilation i.e. so darn hot. But maybe thats the vibe the owner was going for

(do make reservations, this place is pretty popular)
Liang Court is one of my favorite places to hit for Jap food though admittedly, visits are now far and few now that I am no longer working around that area.
Butahage essentially only serves one item, gilled pork on rice. I love places that specialises in one item, you know that they must do it well eh. The pork was grilled on the spot and served on bed of Japanese rice with a runny egg (argh i miss runny eggs!)
tender, smokey and flavourful mmm
